The Month Ahead – November 2014

Welcome to our summary of the new openings and events to have on your radar for the month ahead.

With two new Japanese restaurants, the latest offering from Gordon Ramsay Group, a Provençal brasserie in Clerkenwell and a special Paddington Bear afternoon tea, read on for your November agenda.

The Ivy Market Grill

The Ivy Market Grill will open on 24 November as an all-day café and restaurant, offering The Ivy experience in a more relaxed setting.

The restaurant will feature an a la carte lunch and dinner, pre and post theatre, afternoon tea and weekend brunch; there is also an all-day sandwich menu. The décor is styled around the late 19th century industrial age, featuring mosaic floor tiles, antique brass chandeliers, distressed paintwork and marble table tops in the café area.

Café Pistou

Café Pistou, an all-day Provençal brasserie, opens on Exmouth Market this month. Serving Provençal inspired food and drink, with a focus on small plates for the table, the café, restaurant and bar will open from breakfast until late.

Located at the heart of Café Pistou is a horseshoe shaped bar that will serve up a selection of small plates and classic cocktails reinterpreted to ‘evoke a taste of Provence’. The 95 cover restaurant will accommodate an additional 40 covers for alfresco dining during warmer months.

Roka Aldwych

ROKA Aldwych opens on 3 November offering Japanese robatayaki cuisine in a 150-capacity restaurant. The interior features porphyry stone, natural tanned leathers, stained grey timber and dried green oak.

The cocktails will be served in hand made, Japanese clay vessels and an extensive selection of bespoke shochu tonics will be housed in custom-made display walls.

Massimo Bottura cooks at The Connaught

On Monday 10th November, The Connaught will welcome Michelin stared Chef Massimo Bottura to cook in London for the first time.

“Massimo Bottura at the Connaught” is available for dinner at Hélène Darroze at the Connaught. The tasting menu is priced at £250 per person and includes a welcome glass of Krug champagne, a signed copy of Never Trust a Skinny Italian Chef along with balsamic vinegar and olive oil samples from Bottura’s personal selection.

Guests will also be able to choose a wine pairing option at the dinner for £95.

Hakkasan Hanway Place

Hakkasan Hanway Place will be offering a brand new seasonal Dim Sum Sundays menu, available each Sunday from midday to 6:45pm, offering an alternative to the traditional Sunday lunch.

Priced at £58 per person (£48 without alcohol), menu highlights include crispy smoked duck and pumpkin puff, Golden radish crabmeat pastry, Sautéed venison fillet in Mongolian sauce with pak choi and Apple tatin with blackberry, almond crumble and vanilla.

Locanda Locatelli – now reopen

Locanda Locatelli, the Michelin-starred Italian restaurant in Marylebone has reopened after a three month refurbishment. Close to £1 million has been invested on a completely new kitchen and an interior ‘refresh’, with two brand new Damien Hirst paintings and the addition of a semi-private dining room.

Kouzu

Kouzu’s chef, Kyoichi Kai, has over 30 years of experience as head chef at some of the world’s top restaurants and hopes to introduce a new experience of Japanese dining with artistry and meticulous detail.

The building itself is a Grade-II listed period mansion with a palatial entrance, a floating mezzanine upstairs where the floating sushi bar is located, with a cocktail bar on the ground floor. There is also a chef’s table hidden behind the kitchen for a more intimate occasion.

Heddon Street Kitchen

Heddon Street Kitchen, the latest restaurant for Gordon Ramsay Holdings, is set to open week commencing 10th November in Regent Street’s Food Quarter.

From breakfasts and post-shop pit-stops through to lunches, dinners and after-work cocktails, expect a modern European menu from head chef Maria Tampakis. There will also be a dedicated ice-cream bar.

Paddington Tea at Aqua Shard

From 20th October, aqua shard will celebrate the release of the Paddington movie by offering a limited edition ‘Paddington Afternoon Tea’, which includes London taxis, Victoria sponge and marmalade, all served in the adventurous bear’s iconic battered old suitcase.

Le Chalet at Selfridge’s

Le Chalet, a winter Alpine-style restaurant on the roof of Selfridges, opened in October with a capacity of 120. The restaurant serves an ‘Alpine inspired barbecue menu’ alongside a crab and shellfish bar.

‘Annabel’s: A String Of Naked Lightbulbs’

Ridley Scott Associates and Untitled Entertainment have released ‘Annabel’s: A String Of Naked Lightbulbs’, a documentary film charting the 50-year history of the renowned London nightclub, Annabel’s.

Through the personal testimony and anecdotes of a diverse cast of contributors including Anna Wintour, Kate Moss, Bryan Ferry, Naomi Campbell, Goldie Hawn, Nicky Haslam and Lady Gaga, the docu­mentary offers a personal account of what it is to be part of the world of Annabel’s.

Q on Ice

The ice rink at Canary Wharf will this year host Q on Ice, a pop-up restaurant offering a wide selection of food and drink from a BBQ menu and raw bar. The dining space and all-day menu caters for groups, as well as being suitable for corporate events and private parties.
